Japanese guitars are
popular among players thanks to great quality and attention to detail. This
Lincoln dreadnaught D41 copy is no exception.
An inexpensive to get a fancy flat top at an affordable price that has
the feel and sound of the real thing. Pretty cool for the cash. The top is
spruce, maybe solid but I'm not sure. The back and sides are rosewood. The
rosewood fingerboard features nice abalone inlays. The fingerboard has darkened
with age and use and looks like ebony on first glance. Fancy binding around body, fingerboard and
headstock with an abalone rosette around sound hole. Pretty fancy for an
acoustic under a grand. A rosewood
bridge keeps it rock solid. The finish is natural and is set off by a black
pickguard. A cool guitar that will fool the folks in the back row into thinking
your guitar was made in Nazareth, PA., not Tokyo, Japan!
This flat top sounds and
plays mush like the better Martin from which it was copied. A lot of sound for the bucks. And the feel of the higher quality Martins is
there also. It won't make you burn your pre war Herringbone for firewood this
winter, but it will stand up to and
exceed the performance of most contemporary budget flat tops. Good action and
nice feel. Condition wise, it shows the wear you would expect of a 40 year old
instrument. Moderate pick and clearcoat scratches, a few indents and dings and
a finish chip on the edge of the headstock. No cracks or structural issues. Also
has some fret ware which can also be expected for the years but a very playable
instrument. Comes in a new hardshell case. Also includes a Martin pick.
This is a cool guitar
for the bucks that's much nicer than most new budget guitars. It definitely has
a hip vibe and really looks vintage. plus, it's had the benefit of several
years of aging. Why buy a new Chinese guitar when you can get an older quality
made D41 copy with so much more vibe? The Lincoln Model 697 is quite rare and
doesn't show up very often. That's
because not many were made and most of those that survive are still in Japan. There is not much information out there about
the Lincoln.......some postings on the internet say it was in a lawsuit group
of Martin lookalikes. I've heard that this guitar was produced in Japan by
Alvarez or Ibanez but cannot find any information on that history. The certificate inside the body says
"Lincoln Model 697....Made In Japan."
Includes new hardshell plush lined carry case.
Guitar personally owned by Ray Vaughn, Rick's Continentals Band.
Priced at $ 475.00 and that includes FedEx shipping to the US (lower 48 states).
